Over
Labor Day weekend, we went to Great Wolf Lodge for the first time and
we had a blast! Have you ever been there? We went to the
Charlotte-Concord, NC location, but there are many others around the
country. If you haven't gone, I highly recommend it!
With a family the size of ours (four kids and two adults), we got the perfect size room and slept comfortably. There was a bunk bed and another twin bed in one section of the hotel room with a cabin theme. The kids loved it! Then in the main section of the suite, there was a queen bed and pull out full-size sleeper sofa which my three old slept in. Perfectly comfortable and roomy!
As you probably already know, Great Wolf Lodge is known for its massive indoor waterpark which visitors can enjoy year-round! After an entire summer roasting in the hot North Carolina sun, the indoor water activities were just perfect. No need to worry about sunburn, sunblock, flies in your food, bees, etc! Despite the size of the waterpark, because it's confined to the indoors you feel safer. What made it an even better experience was renting a cabana so we had a "home base" where we can all meet up if we divided up to go on different rides. The cabana comes complete with HDTV, unlimited towels, a mini fridge stocked with drinks and table and chairs. It was great!
The indoor waterpark at Great Wolf Lodge offers awesome tube rides (some intense and some not so intense) as well as a great kiddie section and slides and pools for the entire family to enjoy! What made it an even better experience for us was traveling with another family (who had 3 kids around our kids' ages) so the kids could do the rides together and there were more adults to supervise. This way, two adults could go at the same time on the water rides while the other two adults supervised the little ones. The older kids were able to go around on their own because we had the cabana as home base and always told them to go back there when they couldn't find us. It worked out perfectly!
Great Wolf Lodge has a couple restaurants on site and we enjoyed a great breakfast buffet for a good price! There was also a very well-equipped arcade which the kids enjoyed the night we left and even a spa complete with packages available for the kids as well!
As one who enjoys traveling with her kids, I always like to share great places that I experienced with my family. The best thing about Great Wolf Lodge (somewhat like a cruise ship) is having everything all in one location. The indoor waterpark, lodging, food, spa and evening activities. You don't even have to leave the lodge at all if you don't want to. My only regret is we didn't stay long enough. My kids definitely could've enjoyed at least another night's stay for sure!
