I started a Facebook page for TAKE For Mommies to get the word out and invited my Facebook friends who were Korean moms. Of course my friends spread the word to their friends, etc. At the inaugural TAKE gathering, which took place on Friday, March 26, we had 11 women who attended and out of the 11 ladies, I didn’t know five of them! I was excited about that because that meant they heard about TAKE from someone else besides myself and they were interested enough to attend! J
I’m so excited to share with you about the success of the first TAKE For Mommies gathering!!! Everyone seemed to have had a great time and we even had some really wonderful, honest sharing and exchanging about who we are and our lives. All the women there really clicked and there was an instant chemistry. I realized that this group could be so much and do so much! It was evident that the women there that night really understood my mission for TAKE and were just as excited as I was.
During our discussion, women exchanged different
ideas about what we could do at our TAKE meetings to help us learn more about
the Korean culture and how to teach our children. We also talked about community service
projects we could do as a group. A
common thread in our discussion seemed to be centered on Korean food! Several women had never tried Korean food and
were eager to do so! This led to the
theme surrounding our second TAKE gathering in April.
On April 16, our second official
TAKE gathering, I attempted a cooking demonstration! I’m not going to be on the Food Network
anytime soon and don’t consider myself a chef by any means, but I am confident
in my ability to cook the popular Korean dishes. So, to maintain the momentum of the meeting,
one of my friends and a TAKE attendee taped my cooking demo which is on our
Facebook page. I showed the women how to
make “bibimbahp.” Please forgive the
K-English spelling. J Of course, no one would
enjoy watching me make it without having eaten, so I made bibimbahp for dinner
so everyone could know what it tasted like and then showed them how to make
it. To my relief, those women who had never tried this
dish let alone Korean food really enjoyed it!
This made my cooking demo much more enjoyable. J
Several women took home leftovers to share with their families, one of
whom who was very doubtful that her kids would even try it. She thought maybe her husband might like it,
but wasn’t sure. Lo and behold, her
family LOVED it! The kids gobbled it up
and the leftovers were all gone. She
says she’s definitely going to the Korean grocery store to try and make it
herself if she hasn’t already! J
This
is what TAKE is all about!
