Mommy Angelica proudly shares her daughter Denyelle's First Birthday with us. Time to Ooh and Ahh at her art and designs!

When I first found out I was having a baby girl, I was ecstatic. I knew exactly what theme I wanted for her room, and I chose mermaids, with accents of fish, starfish, sea horses, corals, turtles, dolphins, etc. I wanted a feminine aquatic theme for her room, and as a personalized gift to her before she was born, I created an illustration of mermaids for her to match her room theme. This process inspired me to have a mermaid theme party for her first birthday since I felt like it was all coming together full circle. The mermaid theme eventually evolved to “Denyelle as a Mermaid”.
Venue: Summit House Restaurant who have a helpful and reliable staff including Carmen Kaiser and Marco. The party was smooth sailing because of all their help. We couldn't be happier with our choice of a venue.
Decorations: I chose Kiki Event to do our party decorations, which included, the guest sign-in table with the frames, vases, photo tree, the birthday banner, the doljabi poster board, and labels with the doljabi items, the balloons, the flowers, the fruit, and all the candles with the glass candleholders. Hayeon from Kiki Event also provided the duk enclosed in plastic containers as additional favors for the party. Additionally, my husband and I chose to give fish bowls with rocks and beta fish per family, which Hayeon suggested we incorporated as part of the centerpieces of the guest tables. The experience at Kiki Event was a one-stop shop, which was very convenient and stress-free. She is amazing at what she does.
Party Planning and Artwork (Drawing of “Denyelle As A Mermaid”, Canvas Painting, and Framed Mermaid Illustration): I put my 110% on this party because I wanted it to be perfect. I made the logo of my daughter as a mermaid, which I used on the invitations, the sign-in guest plate, menus, the banner, the cake topper, and the thank you cards. I also created a map for the invitation that was inspired by various treasure maps. Additionally, I made an acrylic painting of my daughter as a mermaid, thank you labels for the favors, and I cut out her pictures to place on the tree that held her photos at the guest table. Also, I thought it was important that I write a mini explanation of the doljabi game and what each item on the game signified for our non-Korean guests. This is so that they had a background to what the game meant.
Since I loved loud colors I was determined to have bright aqua, vibrant fuscia, and a happy orange as the main colors of the party. I was playing with the color palette since February of the same year and at the same time I saw Hayeon from Kiki Event to brainstorm designs! Overall, the extra effort I placed on her party was worth it since everything turned out the way I wanted it to.
Photography: MNM Photography who have amazing photographers! Min Mi took Denyelle’s amazing studio session photos and she sent over another photographer to take photos of Denyelle’s party.
Linens: Eng from Glow Concepts was very helpful coordinating the colors I wanted with the linens. She provided the chair covers with the sashes, the starfish on the sashes, the napkins folded like fish, and the linens. She was creative, talented, and professional. She made the experience of picking linens out fun, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome of her work.
Entertainment: Black Tie Events Owner Rick Burgess who was also our MC for our daughter’s party provided the caricature artist, face painter, and Carl our wonderful magician. He ensured that our party for our daughter was one we'd remember as enjoyable and filled with happy memories.
Paper Details (Invitations, Menus, and Thank You Cards): Artiface Custom and Distinctive Invitations The company has a friendly and helpful staff who collaborated their designs and ideas with my ideas and artwork. The end results of what I ordered from them were all I hoped for and more.
Cake And Smasher Cake: Cinderella Cakes (minus the cake topper, which I purchased elsewhere) and their cakes are delish!

The first birthdays are celebrated for the happiness of the parents as the little babies don't even know what is going on.
