My name is Sohyun Kim, and I am a high school art teacher. Every day,
I strive to inspire my students, and I am in turn inspired by their
ingenuity - being in a creative environment with young minds helps me
to stay free and open when it comes to expressing my vision. So, as an
artist, I am constantly inventing and experimenting, mixing and
matching to produce something beautiful that never existed before,
using everything from river rocks to fabric dyes to broken egg shells.
Since getting married and having kids, I have focused on creating more
practical things, even while feeling no less unencumbered as an
artist. My recent passion for making hair accessories has allowed me
to assemble combinations of colors and textures, and I've been having
so much fun with crochet flowers, fabric buttons, ribbons, fabric
scraps, yoyo flowers, beads and more. I've rarely repeated the same
design - always continuing to search for new ways to make each item I
make unique and special.
The past few months have been especially exciting for me because I have
really made the leap into becoming a professional - taking my Etsy shop
seriously, starting a regular blog, and making my first sales. I feel
very privileged to have the freedom to continue pursuing my dream,
which is to create things that will put a smile on others' faces.
